About Renso
Renso Amariz is a filmmaker, writer, and photographer based in New Orleans.
His work explores the blurry space between memory and perception—whether through the lens of a point and shoot, the frame of a movie, or the structure of a story. He began as a Navy photojournalist, where years of capturing real world conflict and emotion shaped his eye for quiet tension and visual restraint.
Renso wrote for the horror anthology series Soul City (TOPIC), and in 2025, his feature film Birdsong won the Audience Award for Best Drama at the Cinequest Film Festival. He’s currently in pre-production of Lamb, a horror short story based on Greek mythology.
His street photography book I Saw You in New Orleans was published in 2022, compiling years of observations into a meditative visual document of the city’s quiet corners and loud moments. His photography has also been featured in exhibitions and editorial work.
Beyond film and photography, Renso currently has a graphic novel in development. His experimental music group, WGPR, is currently on hiatus.
His works remain committed to stories that don’t shout—but haunt. Though the music may shout at times.
